It’s the prefect time of year for a backyard party. You have warm days and cooler nights and of the best place to serve your guests is in your own backyard on your deck!
Keep it simple when selecting your menu. Create a menu with some make-ahead meals like an amazing baked bean casserole (plug in to your crock pot and leave it simmer all day). Ribs on the BBQ are simple and compliment anything. Grill them up in batches to serve hot or cold. Add a few salads and some fresh corn and you are good to go. It will leave your table setting with bright and fresh colors.
Don’t forget desert!! A simple watermelon is a great way to go and will add a splash of color to your desert table. Brownies or cookies are easy for a grab and go kind of desert.
Add fruit slices to your ice cubes to make drinks more interesting. Fresh Berries or a slice of lemon or lime add bright coloring to any drink.
Planning ahead with some activities for adults and kids is a great way to get everyone up and mingling. Crocket is great and you can play it with multiple people, or make a personalized corn hole deck – with a family emblem or family pattern.
Throw out some hoola-hoops and have a contest! Selecting some funny prizes can make the awards ceremony that much more entertaining.
1 lb ground beef
½ lb bacon sliced in 1 inch strips
½ cup katsup
1 tablespoon of flour
½ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vinegar
Dash of dried mustard (if you don’t have it you can use a teaspoon of preapared)
1 can baked beans
1 can butter beans (drained)
1 can dark kidney beans (drained)
- Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. In same skillet, brown beef and onion. Drain fat.
- Place bacon/beef mixture in a large bowl and stir in the ketchup, sugar, vinegar, mustard, baked beans, kidney beans and butter beans. Mix well.
- Spoon casserole mixture into baking casserole dish and bake in the oven for 1 hour, covered, at 350.
- You can then remove from oven and transfer to a crock pot. Serve hot!
